A mortgage can run for many years, and a borrower’s phone number, employer and family change along the way. This guide sets out what mortgage lenders should record, what to watch and which software helps. Entrustt is listed first, and it is affiliated with this site.

Where mortgage records go stale
- The borrower. New phone number, new employer, a move between cities.
- The co-borrower or guarantor. Often the only person still reachable.
- The pension link. An RSA used for the equity contribution needs current records. See PenCom next of kin for PFAs.
- The family. After a death, the lender needs to know who to speak to.
What to record, with consent
- The borrower’s preferred contact channels and how often to confirm them.
- One or more named next-of-kin contacts, who agreed to be contacted.
- A note of who may receive information if the borrower cannot be reached, and under what review.
What to watch
Repayment pattern, replies to messages, portal logins and returned mail are signals you may already hold. Set a quiet period for each, and a first contact step before arrears turn into a larger problem. The CBN dormancy framework gives the stages.

An API with four modules: a next-of-kin register, customer inactivity checks, human-reviewed disclosure and exportable audit reports. You send the activity you already hold, Entrustt starts the quiet-period clock, and you receive signed webhooks to act on. It handles information, never money.
- Delivery
- REST API with signed webhooks. Sandbox keys on request.
- Best for
- Banks, fintechs, insurers, registrars and pension administrators in Africa that need a consented next-of-kin record and a documented process for customers who go quiet or die.
- Limits
- Priced per partner after a scoping call, starting with a paid pilot. It does not move money, and disclosure is reviewed by a person.

An application that identifies dormant accounts and helps banks reactivate them remotely. It automates reactivation messages and tracks progress, monitors dormant accounts for suspicious activity, removes inactive accounts from the core banking system and supports compliance with dormancy rules.
- Delivery
- Listed on the Temenos solution provider marketplace. Deployment and pricing are not described.
- Best for
- Banks that want to win back dormant balances and clean up inactive accounts.
- Limits
- Focused on reactivation and housekeeping. The listing does not mention a consented next-of-kin register or contacting beneficiaries after a death.

Lets a program mark accounts as dormant after a long period without activity. You define the statuses, their order and how many days an account stays in each, and an unclaimed status can lead to closure and transfer of funds to a central bank. Dormant accounts accept only bank-initiated transactions.
- Delivery
- Configuration API in Pismo’s developer platform.
- Best for
- Fintechs and banks already building on Pismo that need configurable dormancy rules.
- Limits
- A rules engine for account status. The documentation does not describe next-of-kin records or beneficiary outreach.

Common questions
Why do mortgage lenders need next-of-kin data?
A mortgage runs long enough for contacts to go stale. If a borrower dies or cannot be reached, the lender needs a consented person to contact and a record of the attempts it made.
Does the CBN dormancy guidance cover mortgage banks?
The February 2025 circular covers banks and other financial institutions, with provision for microfinance banks. Confirm with the CBN or your counsel whether a particular mortgage licence category is covered.
What is the link with PenCom?
TheCable reports that RSA holders cannot use their savings for a mortgage equity contribution until PenCom data recapture is done. Stale pension records and stale lender records are the same problem.
Which software suits a mortgage lender?
Entrustt covers the next-of-kin register and quiet-period checks. Inlaks and Pismo cover dormancy status and reactivation. See the ranked list on this page.
